The muscle car wars featuring the Motor City’s top pony cars heated up when Ford unveiled the return of the 5.0L V8 to the Mustang GT, offering 412 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. This past week, some of the bigger names in the media world got their hands on a 2011 Mustang GT and while most spent their time driving the car around town the guys at Inside Line took their test vehicle to the dyno and on Wednesday they published their results. The Ford Motor Company has been nudged awake by the arrival of the Chevrolet Camaro (and to a lesser degree the Dodge Challenger). A year after the reincarnation of its old rival and but a year after the redesign of its own pony car, Ford is getting aggressive about its corner of the pony car market with the 2011 Ford Mustang GT, which introduces a 412-horsepower 5.0-liter V8, plus both a six-speed manual transmission and a six-speed automatic. For many years now there have been rumors of a new 5.0L Ford Mustang. Ford Motor Co. recently put those rumors to rest when they revealed their engine lineup for the 2011 Mustang GT. The car, which was previously powered by a 4.6L V8 engine, will now come equipped with a 5.0L four-valve Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) V8 engine nicknamed the “Coyote.”
